Toronto transit sign hacks

Stephen Harper eats babies.” — This is how the advertising signs in the Toronto trains referred to the Canadian prime minister after a “hacker” with a $25 remote had some fun. Apparently this is the sixth “attack” in the last year. The same exact signs and remotes are commercially available from places like Sam’s club. The funny thing is that their big counter-measure is to password-protect each of the signs, which will do absolutely nothing to secure them since anyone with 4$ and a radio-shack IR kit could intercept and replay the password and any new message that they want.
